Time to join another virtual quilting bee…

November 12, 2013 by flutterfromkat@live.com 4 Comments

bee block collection

It’s been almost a year since my last virtual quilting bee finished…
Well, technically less since this year I had joined a new Aussie bee but had to pull out due to the fact I then decided to move to NZ. That was a sad moment because I’d wanted to be part of an Aussie bee for ages and it was made up of a really cool bunch of ladies.

Most of this year I haven’t missed being part of a bee.
No surprise really when I look back at how busy the year has been, not to mention the fact that I had no sewing space for at least 4 months of the year!!
But just in the last few weeks I’ve thought that perhaps it is time to join again.

Things I miss about being part of a quilting bee are:

**  The camaraderie. You really do make some great friends through being part of a quilting bee.
**  Being forced to try new things… In this particular case my use of the word “forced” is a good thing (most of the time 😉 ). I really like getting to try a whole bunch of blocks but only having to commit to 1 or 2 of them.
**  The inspiration… generally everybody in the group has similar interests to you, so it’s inspiring seeing their quilts and work come together and feeling part of it.
**  I find it way more interesting to make 12 different blocks than I do make an entire quilts worth of blocks myself. So for me it’s a great way to finish quilts which might otherwise be super tedious and slow to finish.

Some of my favourite quilts are quilt bee quilts…

There is of course my infamous “Cheeky Quilt” which you can read about here…

My “Lounge quilt” which is another of my all time favourites…

Not to forget of course my Rainbow star bust design quilt…

If you like that one you can view my tutorial here…

So when my friend Danny emailed me the link to Stash Bee I decided to sign up…

Sign ups for 2014 are open until the 30th of this month, so if you’d also like to join a virtual bee then go check it out.
There are quite a few rules you will need to agree to before you sign up though which you can read about here.

Have you been part of a quilting bee?
What is your take on them?

I’ve been really glad I decided to stick with just two bees this year. Enough to have all the fun but not so much that I get overwhelmed. This new bee is tempting and I am sure you will have a great time.

I’ve not taken part in any bees – other than your cheeky quilt, that is. I see my block! 😀
