This holidays could have very well been called the holiday all about the painting,
or something to that extent.
Because all I feel like I did for about 2 weeks was paint, paint, and more paint…

Just to be clear, I’m not moaning about it. It was absolutely my choice to paint (and drag Mr Flutter into painting with me heheheheh) and it’s been something I’ve been thinking about doing for ages.
But it was a lot to do at once and took quite a bit of our “holiday” up.

Now that it’s done I couldn’t be happier with the results and
I’m really glad I took the plunge, got brave and just did it!

So, what did we paint?… 

Project A was the project that had been in the back of my mind for a while now. It was also by far the biggest…
We have had our bedroom suite since our early years of marriage. It was one of the first purchases of  decent furniture that we made (and we’re coming up for 11 years). While I still loved it, and it was still in awesome condition, it was a medium stained (pine stain I think) and I am really a white furniture girl.  Pretty much all the furniture in the rest of our house is white and I just find it much more restful.
So it was time for a change.

I forgot to take a before shot, but this is a shot I took ages ago of my “cheeky quilt” which shows a bit of the furniture…

There was a LOT to paint…

One coat of undercoat, 2 coats of enamel top coat, and a light sand to “weather it” later and we had finished…

I must admit that it took me a good week to feel like it was our bedroom –
It just felt so unfamiliar to us.
But I really love the result, and it does help me feel like there is better flow in our house now between all the bedrooms.

Project B on the other hand had not been in the back of my mind for a long time. It really just came about because we had a ton of paint left over…
We haven’t had an outside table for a while now because the metal framed one that we bought when we first got here had all rusted, and I thought it was a bit unsafe (glass table top with rusted surround) to have around the kids.

So I decided to see what I could find available on Gumtree for cheap that we could paint up if required.
I found 4 brown cane chairs for $20 and a dark chocolate wooden table for another $20.
Add in some paint that we already had, and we now have a very cheap but effective outdoor dining table:

I forgot to take a before photo of the table, but boy was it U.G.L.Y before we painted it.
It has been so nice to have an outdoor table again.
We have used it loads!

Project C was really Mr Flutter’s project. He has been wanting a desk for inside the house for a long time, because at this time of year it is really too hot for him to work in the shed (like over 40 degrees in there). So after my success finding the outdoor furniture I searched around to see if I could find him an old fashioned writing desk.
Then he could make a mess, just close the lid when he was finished, and I wouldn’t be on his case about the mess 😉

So I found him a very ugly dark brown writing desk for $30 and he did most of the painting.
It now resides in our kitchen/dining room so that he has a workspace to call his own…

And that is what we’ve been up to lately & why I haven’t been doing a lot of sewing…
Our house feels so different now and we are all getting a lot of enjoyment out of our new furniture.

Though I think it’s fair to say that we have both had our fill of painting for the year now!!!
