This week I’ve been fairly productive, despite being flat out busy with birthday celebrations & the start of a new term. Unfortunately I don’t have a huge amount that I can show you – yet – (can’t wait to show you my newest pouch on Thursday for a tutorial!) but I can show you my most recent bee blocks for Corrie in Bits & Pieces Bee…
I REALLY procrastinated making these! In fact I completely left them till the last minute because I traditionally don’t “do” angles well… Angles have always been a real challenge for me and I am also a fabric-Scrooge-McDuck & so I tend to take exception to the amount of scraps that they make!… …But… all that being said, I really love how these blocks look and (I can’t believe I’m actually saying this! but) could even see myself making a quilt in the same pattern…
We used this tutorial to make them. Once I got started with the cutting & sewing I thought – these are SO easy… what was I so worried about? But then I got to the cutting down to size & the seam matching stage and thought… “ahhhh…. that’s what I was worried about!!!!” and got really frustrated that the seams didn’t match!
But thanks to the wonder of choosing really busy prints (which I found out quite coincidentally but you can be sure that I’m noting for next time!) you can’t even really notice the fact that the seams are so off and (in my unhumble opinion) they turned out looking pretty great.
That’s the good thing about bees hey – you get forced to break out of your box so often & learn all kinds of new things!! So thanks for the good challenge this month Corrie
Speaking of bees, I have just signed up for a new one. This one is a little different though – it is called “do good stitches bee” and is 100% for charity.
Rachel over at Stitched In Color announced last week that the Do Good Stitches Bee movement was just venturing International but that the new Aussie bee needed 1 more member to get started. I jumped at the chance to be involved (because I’d been admiring the reason behind the bee for a while) but it turns out that I wasn’t the only one… since putting out the call Rachel said that she had filled up that bee but that she now had another 6 Aussie’s signed up and that we could start another bee. How great is that! The potential for 2 Aussie charity bees!!
With me signing up that makes 7 – but we would need 3 more to make a start. So any other Aussie’s out there that would be interested in joining? You can read more about it here… and here is the new members form. The great thing is that you don’t need to sign up to 12 months or anything – just whatever you can commit to!
Hopefully we can get started soon, and sew for some really great causes!!
If you are a follower & you haven’t already, remember to enter all my giveaways. The link to the first one is here & you can navigate using the side bar at the left after that.
Linking up today to Fabric Tuesday…
